THE SEAGULL
by
Arthur Askey (1940)

pic

I'm a silly seagull flying in the sky
Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever so high.
Two big wings and a large yellow beak,
Feathers on my chassis, oh I do look chic.
Flying very high, flying very low,
You can never catch me, oh dear no.
Happy at the seaside, never having words,
Happier in Bond Street with the other birds.
Just a silly seagull, that's all -
Fly away Peter, fly away Paul.

I'm a silly seagull flying in the sky
Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever so high
Following the big ships when they're on a cruise,
Peeping through the portholes and getting lovely views.
Flying very high, flying very low,
You can never catch me, oh dear no.
When the weather's stormy, passengers look gray,
Then we get excited 'cos dinner's on the way.
Just a silly seagull, that's all -
Fly away Peter, fly away Paul.

I'm a silly seagull flying in the sky
Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever so high.
Tho' I cannot sing like the birdies in the park,
Don't think I'm a sissy 'cos I often have a lark.
Flying very high, flying very low,
You can never catch me, oh dear no.
Flying round a liner - racing neck and neck
Then our favourite pastime, playing hit the deck.
Just a silly seagull that's all -
Fly away Peter, fly away Paul.

When we see somebody we like
We're as sweet as treacle;
When we see somebody we hate
Plop - goes the seagull.
Just a silly seagull, that's all -
Fly away Peter, fly away Paul.

THAT'S ALL PLAYMATES!
