Norman Long was first heard on the BBC on 28th November 1922, his claim was that he was the first entertainer to be 'made' by radio. 'A Song, a Smile and a Piano' was Long's sobriquet although the BBC changed his radio billing to 'A Song, a Joke and a Piano' on the basis that you can't hear a smile! Long had a complimentary career in the recording studio where he produced many 78 rpm discs between 1922 and 1941.
